As the party was in full swing, I circulated, offering hors d'oeuvres to each of my guests and taking in the festive atmosphere. From the friends to the gifts, to the singing of "Happy Birthday", I knew this would be a night my friend would not soon forget.
Throughout the evening, I wasn't certain whether the glow in the room was coming from the candlelight, the mirrorballs, or from my guests' faces. One thing I could be sure of was that the party was a success.
I was happy that I had the foresight at the last minute to place something special on the living room coffee table: a big bowl of cherries! What a wonderful symbol of life as it appeared to be on this sparkling night.
