Homemade Iced Tea, Lemonade and Limeade
Having accepted an invitation from friends to come to their home for a barbecue, I thought the least I could do would be to make some refreshing beverages. Here is my recipe for Herbal-Infused Iced Tea:
- 3 cups of water
- 4 herbal tea sachets
- chopped mint
- fresh fruit (optional)
- ice cubes
Begin by boiling water. Add herbal tea sachets to make a concentrate. Stir, and allow to rest until liquid has cooled. Pour into an attractive pitcher and accompany with chopped mint and also some fresh sprigs. Depending on what type of herbal tea sachets you use, you can add ingredients that complement them. Because we used a cranberry-raspberry herbal tea, we added fresh raspberries and some sliced peaches. Stir, and refrigerate. Add some ice cubes and enjoy this iced tea option!
My wonderful libation creations for the barbecue had to include a traditional Lemonade.
- 1 cup water
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/8 tsp salt
- rind from two lemons
- juice from 6 lemons
Add water and sugar into a skillet. (It might seem like this recipe calls for a lot of sugar, but, don't worry, there is a reason for it - you're making a beautiful lemonade syrup!) Add salt, and lemon rinds. Boil for 5 minutes. Allow to cool until it reaches a syrupy consistency. Add lemon juice. Stir. Transfer to container. Put in fridge. When you're ready to serve it, place two tablespoons of syrup in a glass and top off with water or sparkling water.
And, finally, my recipe for a mouth-watering Limeade!
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 10 tbsps fresh-squeezed lime juice
- lime zest
- sliced limes
- 8 cups water
Place sugar into an attractive pitcher. Add lime juice. Add sliced limes, using a zester on the lime to create a nice look. Add lime zest. Add water. Chill and serve.
