Vegetable Buying
Nature is art!
Does planning a week of meals ever feel like a marathon? Trying to buy the proper items and still stay within budget for the week can be a challenge. Joined by my friend Leslie Beck, nutrition expert, I went to my favourite supermarket to stock up for the week. Leslie advised me on what to buy in order to ensure that I got the right nutrients on a daily basis. We began with vegetables.

Leslie recommends that her clients eat at least three different coloured vegetables everyday as well as three different coloured fruits. By choosing fruits and vegetables by their colours, you can get a wide variety of vitamins and minerals - especially antioxidants. Antioxidants are the vitamins, minerals, or natural chemicals in plants that protect us from damage that may lead to certain types of cancer, heart disease and even arthritis. Leslie recommends focusing on: dark greens such as spinach and green peppers; orange, such as carrots, orange peppers (for beta-carotene); and red, such as tomatoes, strawberries, and watermelon for antioxidants.
